Fodor's Review:

You're as likely to hear Italian as English in this neighborhood, which is vital to Providence's culture and sense of self. The stripe down Atwells Avenue is repainted each year in red, white, and green, and a huge pigna (pinecone), an Italian symbol of abundance and quality, hangs on an arch soaring over the street. Hardware shops sell boccie sets and grocers sell pastas and Italian pastries. The neighborhood shines during the Federal Hill Stroll (usually held in the beginning of June) when festivalgoers enjoy music and sample signature cuisine at 20 eateries all within a ¾-mi stretch of Atwells Avenue.

Don't miss Camilles and Patische

At the left of the arch is a wonderful restaurant called Camille's which has phenomenal food and a wonderful atmosphere. For desserts that are to "die for" don't miss Pastiche, which is located through a courtyard on the right and runs parallel to the main street.
